WE DID IT!
We're Officially a Compassionate City:
First in Florida and 20th in the World
Dear Supporters of the St. Augustine Initiative for Compassion,
WE DID, INDEED, DO IT! After 2.5 years of laying the groundwork to become one of the Compassionate Cities in the world, we've achieved our goal and will now begin focusing on our multi-year plan.
On August 26th the City Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution to become a Compassionate City. At the 5 pm Commission meeting today (9/9), they will make it official with a proclamation stating that they affirm the Charter for Compassion and are now the first Compassionate City in Florida and 20th in the world. At that time the St. Augustine Initiative for Compassion which organized this effort will also receive another proclamation that makes us an official Alliance Partner of the 450th Commemoration.
Of course once all this happens, the real work of living into our mission and vision to help create and enliven a culture of compassion city and countywide will begin. On Sept. 21, the International Day of Peace, we’ll be launching our first Month of Compassion. Following in the footsteps of Louisville and other Compassionate Cities, we will also be organizing sectors -- civic affairs, healthcare, education, business, interfaith, etc. Details about all of this will be on this page shortly.
In closing, please know how much your support locally and globally of the Charter for Compassion, our efforts to make St. Augustine a Compassionate City and plans to enliven the Golden Rule is appreciated. Our logo is all about the ripple effect of compassionate thoughts, words and deeds. By partnering with us, each one of you is one of the drops creating ripples that now go beyond the boundaries of our city and county to join with other Compassionate Cities and candidates to become one worldwide.
Shalom, Salaam, Shanti, Peace,
Caren Goldman, SAIC organizer
